In XP pro you can set up multi users. But norton will not run live updates
except when you are signed in as the administrator. If you don't want the
other users to have all admin priviliages, how can you allow norton to run
live updates for all users.
The norton live update button has a lock next to it and says that the system
administrator has locked the live update function. There must be a way that
all users have the ablility to run a live update, but I haven't been able to
find it yet. Aslo you can change the users to have admin privileges, but
then they have access to all the other programs and the ability to do damage
to the machine. any one out there have any ideas?

Just schedule it to update instead of relying on your memory to do it.
It has a built in function to auto-update.
That way it does it for you and it works no matter who is logged in - if
anyone even..

I appreciate the input, but the system is using norton corporate edition and
there is no way that I can set up scheduled live updates. I can set up
scheduled scans, but the live update funtion you can only click on the
button, and no way to schedule it to run automaticaly. I know the home
version I'm useing allows that but this version of corporate doesn't. The
problem seems to be that in the xp multi configuration if you do not give a
user admin rights they can not live update. It seems that there should be a
way around it either in the mmc function by allowing a group policy but I
haven't found it yet. Thank for the post. Any more ideas?...

You can DEFINITELY setup scheduled updates if you are using corporate
edition.

Not only do I install that all the time (Have since version 6.0) on
thousands of computers in a non-managed fashion (scheduling updates every
day at a certain time, within a certain time frame) but also in a managed
fashion where they update from our internal sever. Which I do depends on
the situation.

Non of our users (practically) have anything above Power User, most have
"User" rights.. The machines chug happily along and unless they are not on
at the timeframe given for the schedule updates set by us when we install,
then they update daily.

For the managed installs, we have chosen to allow the "LiveUpdate" button to
remain on, in case the industrious user wants to update it for us.. Not
necessary - but it definitely doesn't hurt anything.
