the guys who fixed my computer installed regular xp on my box... there is
nothing plugged into the usb ports, they have their own ports... my computer
was built by an old friend. i go into the device manager, and nothing shows
up "universal serial bus controller" or anything like that. before they fixed
my computer, i was running windows xp pro, and tried reinstalling it, and
that's when i started having issues with my usb webcam, but i just thought
[webcam] was a piece of shit. then i suddenly had two windows xp pro's, as i
have 2 hard drives. i don't know how they fixed it, but i'm running windows
xp on my c: drive. i have a floppy drive, and a cd rw. also an e: drive for
storage.

Have any work performed on your computer done at a reputable shop, with
certified technicians, that will back up the work. But, at this point, take
your machine back to your "guys" and inform them that they can now do the
job right and install XP Pro. This means they will actually have to know
what they are doing, format and partition the hard drive, find all the
required drivers and install them, download and install the necessary
critical updates, and deliver your system back to you in good working
condition. Then let them know that they will never touch your machine
again. Good luck.

The problem here is that your post is not clear about what your real problem
is. Your statement "there is
nothing plugged into the usb ports, they have their own ports..." makes no
sense. Your statement "i go into the device manager, and nothing
shows up "universal serial bus controller" or anything like that" also
makes no sense.

So what is the problem? Do the USB ports on your system work? Is the
installation of the operating system stable and working? Is the operating
system currently installed the one you want, or not?

is there any way to fix this? i went into bios and enabled everything. the
computer is not even registering that there is something in the usb port. i
know the camera i plug in is getting a signal because the lights flash. i
plugged it into my mom's computer and it showed up right away. any
suggestions?
