Hi,
I am using windows 2000 server, SP3 with a Domain
Controller

When I apply the Non-local Group Policy-User Configuration-
System-Run only allowed Windows

Application (with Apply Group Policy set),
my sccript "test.vbs" file cannot run.

I understand that when this is set, Windows does not allow
running of .vbs file.

Even when I add "test.vbs", it also cannot be executed.

I would like to know how can I run this .vbs script

Unless .vbs is in that setting it will disallow use of any similar
applications when you do that. I'd suggest doing the opposite setting in
your case of disallowing the specific applications you want to prevent, or
to remove the .vbs from that "Allow only" setting.

Please let me know if I've misunderstood your concern.

Hi,

1) I'm afraid that in the 1st place, under Non-local Group
Policy-User Configuration-System-Run only allowed Windows
Application (with Apply Group Policy set), by default,
*.vbs is not set.

2) I've managed to solve this problem by adding
wscript.exe in Non-local Group Policy-abser Configuration-
System-Run only allowed Windows Application.
However by doing this, now the server is able to execute
all *.vbs script. Is there anyway that Windows 2000 is
able to restrict the server/domain to execute only
ocertain .vbs script. e.g allow only to run test.vbs?

3)I need to do this to protect the server from running
malicious which often come in .vbs

Thank you and have a nice day

Robin

Hi Robin-

There is no way to selectively choose which scripts will run and which will
not. It keys on file type association.

Hi,

thanx for the prompt reply.

So besides updating the anti-virus definition file
regularly, is there any other recommended way to control
the execution of .vbs files?
E.g. can we control under the registry? e.g.
HkeyLocalMachine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
ShellExtension\Approved?
