Hello everybody!

I'm quite new to the Group Policy Management snap-in for
the MMC, and have unwittingly restricted myself out from
running the console in author-mode:(

I believe the entry was labeled "Restrict Users From
Running The Console in Author-Mode." -- Which is indeed
labeled wrong, as it restricted *everybody* from running
it in author-mode, including the administrator! (Why the
HECK would an Administrator want to restrict him/herself
from running the console in Author-mode, anyways!?)

Basically, I'd like to know how I could unset this
setting. Possibly by modying it's setting in the registry,
or wherever these settings are ultimately stored?

Much appreciated, thx and good day!

Generally someone would not want to prevent an admin from opening the
snap-in in author mode. It sounds like you made this setting at the domain
level which will apply to all users in the domain. The first thing to find
out is which policy you made this change in. I would assume it is the
default domain policy.
Try going into AD users and computers, right click on your domain
name -properties. Click on the group policy tab. Here you should see the
default domain policy. Select it and click on the properties button. Go to
the security tab and remove the read and apply check box for authenticated
users. Log off and log back on. This should re-apply the policy and not
apply the domain policy. Go revert the changes you made and then go back
and correct the permissions on the group policy.
