running "slow"

Bill H.

Client on a laptop using winxp (home ed. I think but not sure), saying that
his computer is running a lot slower than it used to.

Can this be true, and if so, what can be done to improve and/or maintain
better performance?

Thanks.

Yes it most certainly can be true. Virus detect programs are notorious for
causing this kind of problem. To maintain performance you should run
cleandisk, a registry cleaner and do a defrag periodically. Keep unused or
unnecessary programs off your computer. Don't download and install trash and
last but not least keep your system updated with the updates from Microsoft.

are any of these MS products installed with XP?

Do you mean scandisk/checkdsk when you say "cleandisk" or is that some other
program?

Thanks.
