Running queries from linked Excel spreadsheets

In Access, I have linked an Excel spreadsheet, and then
have queries running off that linked spreasheet. The
queries are functioning correctly, but when I have a
query running, I can no longer open the spreadsheet. If
the spreadsheet is already open, I can't save any of my
changes until I close the query. The spreadsheet is
shared, allowing changes by multiple users.

Is there any way to run a query and still be able to
open/save changes to the spreadsheet that is linked?

When your query is "open", the spreadsheet is "open" because the query is
using its data. That is appropriate and cannot be changed.

However, why not use the query to make the changes to the spreadsheet?

Open the spreadsheet, go to Tools, Share Workbook.
The effect depends on what you are trying to do.

I've tried sharing the workbook, as well as making it
read-only. Regardless, only one query based on the
linked spreadsheet can be running at one time. Do you
happen to have any more ideas?

When you run a query that is updatable on any linked spreadsheet, the query
will lock the spreadsheet until the query is closed. That is how ACCESS
works.
