Running programs at ShutDown

I would like to run one or more programs, such as Disk Defragmenter,
automatically at shut down. Could someone please tell me how to do this?

You would probably create a batch file/script to run the apps & when
completed instigate a shutdown.
If however you are shuting down daily, then runing defrag on a daily basis
is IMO not going to achieve much

Thanks for your advice. On reflection, I think you are right. I was hoping
that there was an easy way of running programs on shut-down - not just
Defrag, which, as you say, might be a bit of overkill, but it now seems
apparent that it is almost as simple to run whatever you need to manually
before shutting down. Maybe one of the freebee schedulers would do the job.
In the mean time, thanks for clarifying the issue. Running programs at
shut-down is clearly not as easy as sticking them in a shut-down equivalent
of the start-up menu.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have followed your link but am unfamiliar with
scripting and currently find myself confused. I clearly have quite a bit of
reading to do before I can attempt to write a shut-down module. If
Microsoft's document cross referencing were a bit more accurate it might be a
quicker job but I have spent the last hour or so trying to follow references
that do not exist, or do so under another name, on another page or in another
document. I have, however, picked up on the reference to VB as a viable
scripting language, particularly because I am very familiar with VBA. I
wonder whether that might prove the most effective way forward in my case?
