I am trying to run Outlook 2003 on a Vista computer. When starting up
Outlook, I get the message: "Cannot start Microsoft OFfice Outlook.
MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been caused by
installing other messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook."

I reinstalled it several times; Tried the Office Repair tool on the CD; and
still keep getting the same message. Mind you, this is a brand new computer
and this same version of Outlook worked fine on the Windows ME I had before...

Outlook 2003 shoudl run ok on Vista.
Is there another email application installed?
See if you can locate and run fixmapi.exe

Me thinks you are not using Office 2003.
The err is typical of outlook 2000 on a Vista sys

Office2003 will not install on a WinME sys or any win9* based system,
requirements are win2k sp3 or later o/s

I'm afraid neither of your suggestions fix the problem for me. I tried
running the fixmapi application: in fact, I ran it several times !!!! Also, I
definitely have a copy of Office 2003. This is the teacher and student
edition which worked fine on my Windows ME machine which I just replaced. I
installed Office 2003 from the original CDs.

So, thanks for the replies, but I still have no solution. Any other ideas,
anyone???

Looking back at your original post, you asked more than one question. I
answered all but one: Yes, I have a legal and valid copy of the installation
disk. Yes, I ran the fixmapi application - as a matter of fact several times.
And no, I did not think I had any other email program.

As it turns out though, my last answer was incorrect.

This new computer that I bought comes pre-installed with a limited time
edition of Office 2007. I found a reference to this on another web site which
recommended uninstalling it. I did so; uninstalled my Office 2003; rebooted
several times; installed Office 2003 and VOILA! it now works.

So, I guess you were right about another email program causing the problem.

That's good that you worked it out.
