It seems that I am always running out of space on my file server. I am
limited money wise so I started investigating and have found that in several
users homedirs they contain duplicate information.

My question is this. Does anyone know of an easy way to scan the drive for
duplicates and remove them? Any help would be appreciated.

You will be spending an enormous amount of time cleaning
up duplicates, and it will never end. A far better way is to
put the responsibility back where it belongs: To the users.
Negotiate a quota system with the various managers, then
enforce it. Departments going over their quote will be billed
accordingly, which allows you to buy more disk space and
larger backup drives.

If you have Windows Server 2003 then you can use the inbuilt
quota system. If you have earlier versions then you need to run
a batch file once a week to generate a report about who is
using how much disk space. Use it to compile ongoing statistics -
it will quickly show you who the offenders are.

Thanks for the response, that is an angle I failed to see. This is a great
option, and I greatly appreciate your support.
