i read once that it is possible to wire a home pc into a car so that you can
use it by fitting it in the boot.

they made a dash panel so that they could use it as a mp3 player.

anyone know how to do this or have the link/s??

You need a power supply that will either use and regulate
the 12-14 Volt DC battery/alternator power, replacing the
120 VAC conventional desktop power supply or you use an
inverter to change the car's 12-14 volt DC power to 120 VAC
for use by the conventional PC power supply. You also can
use the 120 VAC to run a standard monitor or you can find a
monitor that runs on 12-14 VDC.

The PC needs to be securely mounted so it doesn't move
around and rubber shock mounts will help protect the hard
drive.

A small flat case or a Shuttle PC is easier to fit in the
boot [trunk] and long cables are run to the passenger
compartment and dash board. Cooling is important and the
boot [trunk] is sealed for weather protection, you will
probably be advised to install some forced air ducting and
vent so it doesn't over-heat.

Unless you also intend to do gaming and other "real"
computer tasks, why not just buy an MP3 player?
