running .exe files from web pages

I have recently developed a small local "web site" for
use at my job. it is not accessed by anyone but those on
the local machine. It was designed simply to speed up
the access of files, folders, and commonly used web
sites. In doing so, there a several links to .exe
files. When clicking those, the annoying "This could
harm your computer" screen pops up. I can find no way of
removing this annoying. I need help and suggestions in
finding a way around this. With the number of computer
idiots at my work place, certainly one of them will screw
it all up...

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bryan,

There is no way of running en EXE right from within the browser, unless you
build the EXE using the .NET framework, sign the application and add the
domain it comes from as secure (that's no problem, since it's your own
network).

Kind regards and Merry Christmas

Hans,

This article used to be suggested for that question on IE5 NG.
I don't know if it still works in IE6. Never tried it myself in any case.

<title>KB232077 - INFO: Executing Files by Hyperlink and the File Download Dialog Box</title>

Max Spyridakis often seemed to have the most detailed explanations
and caveats about the procedure.

I found one unconfirmed report that it does't apply to XP

There is one hit on this newsgroup which might encourage
him to try it anyway.
