Running Excel as a stand-alone application

Can I install Excel and use as a stand-alone
application...that is...without Office? I am running
Windows 2000 and word perfect and am looking for a
spreadsheet. I am considering Excel but do not know if I
can run JUST Excel.
 
Great! Appreciate the fast response. I now feel
comfortable trying the trial Excel download.

Just curious. From where would you "download" Excel trial version?
