I found a line to add through the command prompt, on a
different computer running Windows 2000 Pro, that allowed
me to run programs under different windows versions. I
have been trying to install this feature on my computer
and can not remember what the command was, and I also can
not remember where I found the command. Can anybody help
me? I have flipped through 3 different books including
the books included with windows 2000 Pro.

I don't know what you are asking. Do you really want to "run programs under
different windows versions" (which sounds like you're trying to save disk
space on a dual-boot/multi-boot system) or do you want to trick programs to
run under Windows 2000 by making the program think it's running under a
different OS?

Are you talking about program compatibility/compatible mode? For example
when you right click a shortcut and choose Properties, are you referring to
a command line version of the options you see on the Compatibility tab?

Maybe you're talking about QFIXAPP.EXE, part of the Application
Compatibility Toolkit?

I think I would be trying to trick the system into
thinking that it is running under windows 98 or 95...

I used to be able to right click a shorcut icon and it
would give me an option to (load, start, run...), not sure
how it was stated, the program under a different version
of windows.

Example: I have a watch that used windows 98 to update
the data to my watch. This program will not work with
Windows 2000 pro. After the option, I could right click
the shortcut and it would give me the option to start the
program as a windows 98 program. I think this might be
standard with windows XP. This option had to be loaded
from the command line in Windows 2000 pro. I need the
syntax to enable this feature.
