I need some help in trimming what applications are running in memory. Over
the years, the list has grown and now causes the PC to run much slower.

I do not know what is the basic list of applications except for a few
(explorer.exe, system.exe, etc.).

Please advise.

Look in Control Panel/add and remove programs to review what applications you no
longer use and remove them. Also you can use SpyBot Search and Destroy in advanced
mode/tools to view startup programs and selectively disable ones you do not use
anymore similar in the way msconfig works which will also work if you can get a copy
from a W98 or XP installation. SpyBot also has a process list in advanced mode that
maps running processes to application path that is helpful in determining what is
initiating the process. --- Steve

Do "Control, Alt, Delete" and go to "Task Manager". They
can be individually turned off there. Better is to go
to "Add Remove Programs" in "Control Panel" and delete
them there.
