Please help!

When I connect to the internet via aol it seems fine for a few minutes but
if you try to load a web page the whole system hangs. I can't even open Task
Manager or restart, the whole system just stops. I then have to wait for
ages for everything to work again and then restart the PC.

I think aol might be the cause because if I log on and don't use the
internet then everything is fine.

I've looked in the event viewer and have seen a lot of recurring errors,
this is the main one but I'm not sure if it's connected to the aol problem:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: LoadPerf
Event Category: None
Event ID: 3001

Time: 19:09:35
User: N/A
Computer: NOME-942XK1VJFS
Description:
The performance counter name string value in the registry is incorrectly
formatted. The bogus string is 潴敲摉ㄽ〰㄰Ā, the bogus index value is the first
DWORD in Data section while the last valid index values are the second and
third DWORD in Data section.

I've tried searching for help but I'm not sure what I'm doing so I don't
want to risk ruining everything!

Once everything has restarted and task manager appears everything is fine
again until the next time someone logs on. It is a family computer with
Windows XP Home edition and has all the updates on it available from
Microsoft.

Any help would be much appreciated!

You ruined everything the day you installed AOHELL's trojanic software on
your system!

To quote joust-in-jest: -

"If it hurts every time you poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick
(AOHELL), the obvious solution is to quit poking yourself in the eye with a
sharp stick (AOHELL).

If you absolutely MUST poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick (AOHELL),
then feel free to seek assistance from the maker of the sharp stick
(AOHELL)."

Uninstall AOL [$24/month] and install netzero [$10/month].

I ran into this error many times in many newsgroups. I am happy to say that
there is a fix for this issue. You take you CD that contains you Operating
System and after you insert it into the computer Reboot with it. When the
computer opens up choose the reformat option. Erase all the partitions . Oh
sorry I forgot the rest
