running access 97 on windows XP

Hi John

thanks for the quick response - the full story is that i'm developing an
access database which exports data and they wanted it in access 97 exporting
to excel 97 and now one of the principles has commented:

"I am replying early as there are concerns about the use of Access 97 and
Excel 97. Our host agency is moving from Access 2000 to XP. I cannot
confirm, at this time, if the Department can supply Access 97 and Excel 97
and whether they will support the software. I am told that these older
packages are not fully compatible with XP and some conflicts occur with
printing reports and exporting text forms."

have you heard about these report printing / exporting problems?

I have run into the following problem with Win 2000 and WinXp using
Access97. The link below is to the White Paper discussing it. (Need to
register the DA0 for Access 97).

I have also had problems with the Switchboard if I build in Access
2000/xp/2003 and then convert to Access97.

That's a VERY DIFFERENT QUESTION! Your original question was about the
WindowsXP operating system; this is about compatibility between Access
(Office) 97 and Office XP programs. Microsoft makes it confusing! "XP"
applies to the operating system and to application software, but it's
almost completely independent.

Access97 works fine (with a few quirks, note elsethread) under the
WindowsXP operating system.

However, Access97 cannot read, update, or interact with AccessXP
databases (although AccessXP can use Access97 databases). You can
create a database in AccessXP and save it in Access97 format for use
with an existing installation of Access97, although of course new
features that did not exist in 97 will not be converted.
 
thanks all for your replies

i'm writing the DB in 97 and have decided to give the end users the choice
of
1) installing and running access 97 along side whatever other versions they
have
2) converting the front end to whatever version of access they want to use
hopefully i won't run into any problems with these options.
