running a report causes Access to hang

any time I try to design/run a report Access hangs --> Hanging application
MSACCESS.EXE, version 10.0.2627.1, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hand
address0x00000000

event properties = source = application Hang category (101) event id 1002

it is usally accompanied by this event also

Source Applicaiton hang, category none, event id 1001

my system is a Dell GX270 with Windows XP Sp2

I have tried uninstalling office completely and reinstalling it -- several
times with no change

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
 
Go to File>Print and make sure you have a valid default printer selected.
Access can't design reports without a printer established.

Otherwise, if the problem is confined to reports, I would look at Printer
drivers first.
- Check for new drivers.
- Delete & reinstall the printer on your PC, whether you find new drivers or
not (make sure the "new" Printer is selected under File>Print).
