Elementary I know, but how do I --

-- arrange for a program to run at start-up? ( i.e at switch-on ) ?
-- remove a program which is already doing this, ( i.e so that it
no longer runs at switch-on ) ?

with gratitude,

Hi,

Easiest way to add is to stick a shortcut to it in a startup folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup (starts for
everyone)
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup (starts for
only you)

Disable? Check within that programs options/proeferences/settings. If you
are unable to disable it that way, click start/run and type MSCONFIG, then
click ok and look for it on the startup tab. Unchecking the entry loading it
should normally be sufficient to keep it from loading.

Hello Nutcase

Thank you for your reply; this is not to criticise it but to show how
complicated life can sometimes be.

Add a program, no probs.

But : Now I wanted to remove a panel which was appearing on tte desktop at
start-up and which I no longer wanted, ( it's written in Ability which I no
longer use either).

Life becomes awkward :

(1) If I click (left or right) on Start, there appears no option called Run.

( I know there's a 'Run' somewhere, but damn if I can find it anywhere else
either)

(2) I'm not sure how to find options/preferences/settings. Yet I know
it, too, is indeed somewhere because I seem to remember finding it some time
ago.

(3) Your info "Run MSCONFIG", though, seemed to be the key. It's just that
(see above) I can't find 'Run' to run it.

(4) So: being a clever-clogs ( or a smart-ass, whichever) I searched for it.

It's in C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries.

Is that abstruse or what? That's what I meant by life being complicated.

(5) However, I ran it. Bingo, you're quite right, up comes a nice list of
all the programs which run at startup, uncheck the one which produces the
panel, restart and hey, no more panel,

--- so, with luv and thanx again

(1) If I click (left or right) on Start, there appears no option called Run.

Taskbar/Start Menu properties> Customize : Add check next to "run" to add
it to the start menu
-or-
press Windows key + R
