Running a CD from HDD

I have used the MS program, winxpvirtualcdcontrolpanel_21.exe,
to place an ISO image of a fairly old game onto a Hard Drive.
The HDD folder contains just the .ISO file, to which the shortcut refers.
However, I cannot get the program to run, as the O/S states that this
program is not a Win32 application, and so I still have to insert CD.
Any points I have missed/options I could use?

Jim.

Neil. There seems to be no differences in those files. Using your
recommended file I could still go back to the situation I first achieved -
a new Drive Z containing the game, which starts on clicking 'Autorun'.
However, this new Drive Z tends to disappear on rebooting.
Using either program to place an .ISO file on an existing Drive results
in the 'not a Win32 application' message.
I'll keep working on this.

Thanks, Jim.

You could try Alcohol Software (their 52% code is free). This gives you
a virtual CD drive, and you can mount the ISO image on that.

An "ISO image" is not bootable (nor can it be "run") - it must be converted
to a bootable CD.

"Z" drive is a reserved drive (kind of) that Windows assigns to mapped
drives or RAM drives created usually by a program or utility - drive and
generally is "deleted" upon rebooting.

Not really. There are programs like Power ISO that will take an ISO
file and turn it into a virtual drive. You thus use it like a CD / HD.

Steve, Thanks for that tip. I have downloaded the 52% version - all
I need for my problem - and will try it out.

AJR/Big Al: Drive Z disappeared as expected. Thanks for your input.
I will report on the Alcohol software, it sounds great.

Have my game running very well from the hard drive thanks to
Alcohol 52% and the help from this NG.

Thanks, Jim.
