Computer runs XP. When starting computer from it being
powered off it runs extremely slow. Have to open the task
manager and it shows RUNDLL32 using 97% of the CPU. Once
that process is terminated computer runs fine.
What causes this to happen and how can it be fixed?
This just started last July prior to that computer ran
fine.
Thanks

I believe that is one of the milder viruses. You'll have to look in msconfig
to see if it's there and X it out. Also you'll have to check the registry and
if in any of the 'run' items, remove it.

Once I look in the MSCONFIG and do determine that there
is a problem how do I "X" it out. This is all new to me,
I've not had to delve into this type of a problem before.
Thanks

In the startup TAB, rundll32 trying to load something? If so, search Google
for the filename that it trying to load, could be spyware, a virus or a
browser hack (had one today that tried to load itself like that). If you
find it to be malware, uncheck it so it will not load again.

Alternatively you could have a malware detector take care of it, Spybot
detected the one that tried to intrude my system today.
