rundll32.exe appearing when shutting down computer

can some one please help me out i am not very up to date with computers. when i log off my computer a rundll32.exe pop up appears.Waht is this? i am also having alot of random pop ups appear which when closed re appear immediately usually ending up with my computer freezing. if anyone could give me any insight into this i would be massively grateful.

RUNDLL32 is the Microsoft Windows program that loads DLLs into memory so
that they can be used by specific programs or by Windows.

without knowing the exact error you are getting all i can suggest is
downloading and installing adaware from
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
and do a full virus scan

I have a recurring problem whereby rundll32.exe takes over 99% of my CPU and
causes my PC to freeze. The only way to recover is to reboot. I'm running
Windows XP Professional. Please advise. Thank you.
