Run XP & Vista?

hi,
Could someone please tell me in detail how to keep XP on my PC and install
Vista on another partition, so i have a choice of which OS to load up on
start up.
Any help will be appreciated
 
Hi solid_snake.

Here's what you do. Use partition magic from powerquest and create a second
partition on the main HDD [same as where WIN XP is installed] from within WIN
XP.
Allocate a minimum of 20G for Vista Beta 2 installation files. I allocated
approx. 80G for my 2ND partition on my HDD.

NOTE: Make sure you give your 2nd partition VOLUME a name so you can easily
recognize it during the installation.

Once that is complete, place your WIN VISTA BETA DVD in your CD-ROM and
re-boot off of your CD-ROM drive. First, you may have to go into BIOS and set
boot sequence do the CD-ROM drive will execute first.

During the boot, hit any key to install WIN VISTA BETA and simply follow the
prompts.

It will eventually ask you which partition to install the OS on.

After completion of the installation, next time you boot it will offer which
operating system you want to boot into.

It worked fine for me.

NOTE: Took me about 1-1/2 hours to install VISTA but installed flawlessly.

What do you mean "Create a second partition on the main HDD [same as where
WIN XP is installed] from within WIN XP." Do you mean create a new partition
inside the current C dive or create a new partition seperate from the C drive?
Any help is appreciated.

Create a new partition on the same drive where WIN XP resides.

You need to create a logical partition from your existing hard disk to
install Vista. You can use tools such Symantecs Partition Magic 8 to do so.
This is very important, ensure you are installing on a clean logical
partition with enough free space. If you have a spare installation of
Windows XP SP2 you don't mind ruining, you can upgrade from that or you can
start the new installation by booting from the DVD drive, (make sure your
boot drive in your BIOS is set to the optical drive). I launched setup from
within XP, type in my Product Key > Accept the EULA > click Custom > select
the partition you created for Windows Vista.

Note: If you want to upgrade Windows XP make sure you launch setup from
within Windows XP SP2, upgrades are not supported by booting from the DVD.
Upgrades are not supported for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition at all.

Most important of all, back up any important data you might have on that
computer you plan on installing Vista.

Will this work installing a Vista 5381 disc?

one way to go is to have two hard disks. the main one with xp on it and the
other one with vista on it. make the secondary one removable so when you do
not want to use vista, just remove the 2nd hard disk and your ready to go
use xp again.

i'm doing that right now with my evo.
the main hard disk has xp an it and the removable multibay disk has vista on
it.
 
Solid make your life easier, go out and get yourself a new 80gb HD and
install Vista on it, that way you dont screw up your current system. After
you install it if you want to run Vista all you have to do is reboot, enter
BIOS, select your HD Priority to the drive containing the Vista load, which
is usually in the BOOT menu of Phoniex BIOS, then hit f10 and your in Vista.
Do the same to get back into your XP load.
