run the show automatically from a file

I've seen part of my question already here, but wanted clarification. If I
save a presentation as a .pps and e-mail it out... will it run even if the
recipients do not have PowerPoint?

No it won't. The recipient will need to install the free viewer:
PowerPoint 2003 viewer:

PowerPoint 2007 viewer:

Or you could save as a pdf, or a movie format, or use package for CD which
includes the viewer. Your best approach depends on the nature of the file
and the recipients.
