tonight i ran teh securedc template. when i did so i lost all access from the
network and lost my terminal services. i was able to open the compatablity
policy instead to get the network back in place, but i have not gotten
terminal services to come back in place. I removed and replaced terminal
services (admin mode) and still no effect.

any ideas????

Did you apply the securedc or hisecdc?? The securedc template mostly creates
a stronger password/account policy, enables some auditing, and mildly
increases security on a few security options that I doubt would shut down
the network. What is the makeup of your network computers and servers?
Exactly where did you apply this template - local, domain, domain controller
policy?? --- Steve

It is a single server working as a stand alone 2000 server...

i did the securedc not the hisecdc... and i lost the network browsing untill
i went to the policies and enable network log in and also i did a lot of
account thinning to get rid of a lot of accounts that were unnecessary...

That does not make any sense that the securedc template would do that.
Anyhow if you want to change "security options" to default defined levels
open the security templates mmc snapin and first create a new template and
give it an appropriate name. Then open the basicsv.inf template, go to local
policies, right click and select copy. Then go the same in your new template
and select paste. Then open security options in your new template to make
sure the configuration from basicsv.inf has been copied and also change
"digitially sign server communications server (when possible)" to enabled.
Then right click your security template name and select "save". You now have
a template that can restore security options portion of security policy of a
Windows 2000 domain controller for all the important options. It will also
be fine for your Windows 2000 server. --- Steve
