Run program as other user

Steve

I tried this question in alt.os.windows-xp but, it seems the kooks currently
have a hold.

Currently, every time I get a security updates for a spyware program, I open
every account and run it to update security. Is there a way to do it all
from the Administrator account?

The other information that seems to be essential is that the other users are
not logged on at the time.

Hi Steve,

If you have to do that, it means the program is installed separately for
each user. To have a single update requires that all users are using the
same program installation folder and that the program itself supports a
multi-user environment. Sounds ludicrous that a modern spyware program would
not be designed this way, but I would suggest you check with the program
distributors.

Why not say what program you're talking about? In any case, the answer is
probably not. If this is an update to protections, some items are specific
to individual users (like unsafe links, certain items in the user registry
hive, etc.). Similarly, when scanning for spyware, some problem items may
be specific to a certain account like some keys in the user registry hive.
It is an annoyance, but unfortunately difficult to get around.

Counterspy? It's due for attention in version 2.0

The program is Spybot Search & Destroy. I had it installed before setting up
accounts for different users (one of the users kept installing programs
without my knowlege and despite my warnings).
To have a single update requires that all users are using the same program
installation folder and that the program itself supports a multi-user
environment.

The former is a 'yes' but I'm not sure about the latter. It seems to run
through the current user account only but sets up for each user.

Agreed. Its no so much running the S&D check as the immunisation I want to
run - great believer in "an ounce of prevention ..."
