Run from Start does not keep running

Hello, All;

I have a recent install of WinXP Home Ed. on a P-III,
450MHz. when I try to run regedit or msconfig from the
Start/Run dialog, the tool comes up, but then closes
after a few seconds. Any ideas why this is happening?

This is an indication of a virus infection. Do a complete scan with up to
date antivirus software.
