Fred

How do you clear the history of the run and search
boxes. I have tried "autocomplete, regedit, and clear
history in a number of locations. Cant seem to empty the
recorded history contained in the boxes like RUN when any
letter is typed... Try it your self, it might suprise you
as too what is there!!

Hi Fred,

Right-click Start, click Properties, and then click Customize.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Clear List. If you're using the
Classic Start menu, click Clear.
Clicking Clear List empties the following items:

1. My Recent Documents folder
2. RunMRU items. (sometimes you may need to logoff and login back)
3. Network places MRU lists
3. Common Dialog box entries (file open/save as window)

For clearing the Find Files entries:

I have tried all bellow.. cannot clear the history in
the run box. Logged off, rebooted.. to no avail.

Can you check if the entries are removed here:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU
]

Open Registry Editor [Regedit.exe] and goto the above location.

Fred, try deleting the "RunMRU" key itself. This is the only place where the
mru lists are stored. If this fails to solve the problem, create a new user
profile.

Ramesh, I have deleted the RUNMRU, but that hasnt worked
either. Create new user does work, however all my user
details are gone. There must be a record somewhere on
the machine. The Runmru is recreated upon reboot, but
the history is still there. (when I go back to original
user).
