Hi,

Apart from Carey's expert advice, you may also want to know that typing 'control userpasswords2' (without the quotes)
opens up the old windows 2000 type user accounts applet. This is helpful in cases where people are wanting to auto-logon
to Windows.

What's the Start | Run command that opens the User Accounts window?

TIA

Thanks Carey -

Wrong window though

The one I'm looking for is one that opens the same window that going to control panel and clicking on User Accounts opens.

Do you have that one?

Start > Run and type: lusrmgr.msc , and hit enter.
(Windows XP Pro only)

Bingo

Thanks

Now my next question

When I open userpassowrd it only lists my account (by my name with admin privileges) and the guest account
however
when I open userpassword2 it lists the same as the above with the addition of an extra administrator account. What is this extra account for? Why doesn't it show up on the straight user account screen list? Can it be deleted?

Also there is a check at "Users must enter a user name and password to us this computer" but they don't. It's a single user computer with no password. What good is that check mark?

What is this extra account for?

This is the inbuilt administrator account which is created during the Windows setup.
Why doesn't it show up on the straight user account screen list?

It does show up when there are no other accounts setup. Once any other account is created, this account is no more shown
on the new user accounts applet.
Can it be deleted?
No.

Also there is a check at "Users must enter a user name and password to us this computer" but they don't

This is the default. If the accounts have any password, the user would be prompted to enter the password while log-on
attempt.
What good is that check mark?

If you remove the check-mark, you would be prompted to enter a username and password under which you want windows to
log-on automatically.

What exactly are you trying to achieve ? If you specify your problem(s), maybe someone out here can help you.

No 'problem'

What I would LIKE to do is reduce the # of accounts to just one. When I look at C:\Documents and Settings it lists 4 (potential) users - Admistrator, All Users, MyName, Default user. Each of these have sub folders that have differing folders and files in them. Favorites - for example. The one under the admin still has all the junk internet links (msn, media, RealPlayer, etc - lists of stuff that no longer reside on this system) that the computer manufacturer and/or microsoft listed there.

Example - All Users | Application Data has stuff listed that has long since been removed from the computer.

I'm trying figure out how much of this stuff can be gotten rid of.

Hi,

In my opinion, leave all the folders alone i.e. Administrator, <USERNAME>, Default and All User. Whenever you create a
new account, the settings are inherited from the 'Default' profile. The Administrator and <USERNAME> are the folders for
the admin and your account profiles. The All User folder has settings which are common to all the users on the machine.
