I guess this is a basic question, but I do not seem to have found a
solution. My system is due a clean re-install; it keeps generating
problems, but I would like to wait for Service Pack #2 and then do a clean
install (or there may even be a new computer in the offing). I have found
that running chkdsk /f on the system drive at every startup keeps things
reasonably tidy. Is there any way to order the system to do that on every
reboot? I have to remember to go to the Command Prompt and place the order
before shutting down. Or, I suppose, I could install the Norton Disk Doctor
utility; I have it (not currently installed) and, if my memory serves me
correctly it can enable chkdsk on every boot. Is there a way to do it in
XP?
