Every time I move the mouse there is a strange low-pitch rumbling noise
clearly noticeable. It also happens during downloading of a Web page.

Anybody has any idea where this could come from ?

I run WinXP home on a ASUS A7V880 mobo with built-in sound.

Thanks,

Marc

Dear Kelly,

Yes, the noise is coming from the PC speakers.

Dear Kelly,

Yes, the noise is coming from the PC speakers.

ok
what sound card do you have ?
in the volume control of your pc is the slider all the up ?
if it's near the bottom you need to have the speakers turned up and this
produces backround noise caused by EMI caused by anything electrical. i.e.
pc/fans/monitor etc
also check you have the latest drivers for your sound card and all
cables/connections are secure.

Sounds like you have an onboard sound card. Sounds like you have a cheaply
made motherboard ( no floating ground for components). Buy a PCI soundcard,
install it, and disable the onboard sound in BIOS.

Have you played each of the sounds listed in the Sound applet in Control
Panel to see if any of those match up with the noise you hear?

Your mobo is not a cheaply made one, but there is a feedback problem with
the chip. This is fairly common with mtherboards that have integrated
audio. Nothing you cna do short of replacing the board. Some boards of the
same type will have this problem, others won't. Guess it has to do with QC
at the assembly stage.

If it is really bad, I would contact the vendor you bought the board from
and have them swap it out for a new board. Test the new one before leaving
(hint: using headphones will make it easier to detect).
