Hello All,

I need some assistance in regards to a problem I am having with some rules I
have created.

I will start by outlining the type of system I am using. I am running an
exchange 2000 server and outlook xp. It is on a Windows XP OS if that is
important. I am also running SP1 for the Office Suite.

Now the problem. I have created the following rules. 1. When messages arrive
from people in the Global Address Book place the message in the Inbox and
stop processing more rules. 2. When messages arrive from people in the
Outlook Address Book place the messages in the Inbox and stop processing
more rules. 3. When messages arrive and the subject contains the following
words (enter a variety of words here) place the messages in the Junk Mail
Folder and stop processing more rules.

If I use these rules separately. That is only having one of them running
when new messages come in they work great. But when I turn all the rules on
at once they don't appear to work. All my messages go into the inbox? I have
even tried removing the "Stop Processing More Rules" form the three rules I
have created however, when I do that only the last rule applies to the
messages which defeats the point of the first two rules.

Does anyone have an idea as to why this is not working for me? Am I doing
something wrong with the rules?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks !

Kranzel,

Thanks for the info. I have been to the slipstick site and I can see by the
wording in my original message that I may not have been clear. I have set my
rules almost the same as in the slipstick article for spam processing. IE:
a.. Rule#1 - Pre-Junk FROM:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
from people or distribution list (select distribution list addresses from
the address book)
move it to the Inbox folder
and stop processing more rules
The difference between my rules and the above rule is I used the GAL instead
of a DL or individual persons.

If I understand your comment correctly I believe you are telling me to
remove the move to inbox comment. I unfortunately do not understand how that
would help. Could you possibly give me a dummy example of how you would set
up the rules I am attempting to accomplish?

Thanks!

remove the inbox rules and only use the ones that move message to the junk
folder, setting an exception for people in the gal. See
http://www.slipstick.com/rules/junkmail.htm for help in setting up simple
but effective rules.
