I have created a few rules that move emails into distinct folders
given certain criteria.
Is there a way to turn off the notification feature for the messages
that follow the rules but keep it active for those messages that end
in the Inbox?
I use MO 2000 - SR1.
Nope, the notification is determined when the new e-mail gets received,
not after the mail poll completes and after all rules have been
exercised and could then check how many new e-mails survived to remain
in the Inbox. It'd be nice if it worked that way. About the only I
know of to get around the problem is to turn off the notification option
in Outlook and replace it with a rule to show an alert window (it would
be the last rule but would also have to be included in any rule that use
the "stop processing more rules" clause if it put or left the e-mail in
the Inbox). For example:
- Disable the "When new items arrive" options.
- For a rule that *keeps* incoming e-mails in the Inbox and use the stop
clause, add the clause to show the alert dialog. For example:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
sender is in <contact-type> Address Book
notify me using a <specific message>
stop processing more rules
- After all your other rules to catch spam or delete suspect e-mails,
add a catch-all rule for e-mails that didn't get processed by any of
your rules and would thus remain in the Inbox. This rule must be at the
end of the rules list:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
notify me using a <specific message>
[stop processing more rules]
Instead of getting a convenient reminder tray icon telling you have new
e-mail (regardless of what rules get exercised against it), you get a
popup window displaying <specific message>, which can be a bit annoying.
