Hello

This is the information Microsoft provides at thier newsgroup website
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[ln];newswhelp#usenewsrules

What it call comes down to is common scense and courtesy, show respect, do
not attack individualls or thier responses. Do not flame (for the love of
god don't
flame), don't troll. This and to remember that it is always a good idea to
thank
the poster(s) which helps you solve your problem as well as if you do find a
solution before getting a reply or a solution that works better than a
reply, then
why not post a reply to your own post and share the information. This way
other
people can be apart of the solution and also helps increase the hit quality
if you
search the newsgroup.

Hope this helps,

//Andreas

I agree with every point... and I'll add that if you are answering a
question, please be thorough. It can be quite frustrating to get a response
that assumes you know some jargon or terminology. Worse yet, a cryptic
response provides the illusion that the question has been answered and other
potential answers are never posted because that.

Are there any official etiquette rules for these newsgroups?

All I can find from MS is -
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/conduct/default.mspx

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about --
http://www.yoda.arachsys.com/csharp/faq/posting.html

I presume MS don't publish any.

Borland do, for their newsgroups --
http://info.borland.com/newsgroups/netiquette.html.

Maybe MS should?
