Rules don't work on "sent" folder?

OL 2003 - I'm trying to set up rules so that if I reply to "John Doe" from
the inbox, the reply gets sent to "John Doe" folder, where I will later drag
the incoming message.
Basically I can't get messages sent from "me" to "John Doe" to go to his
folder!
Can anyone advise?

You don't use rules for that: Tools | Options | Email Options | Advanced
Email Options | In folders other than Inbox, save replies with original
message.

Thanks Sue - I understand that but always seem to impatiently reply to
e-mails from the in-box. I want to somehow drag the replies with the
original e-mails when I place them in their final folders - at the moment I
have to trwl through the sent items and drag agin to the right folder -
seems very unwieldy!
Would have thought that if I pressed shift or alt or ctrl or something when
dragging from inbox it would pull associated replies with it!

But I guess I'm wrong????

No, there is no feature in Outlook to do that automatically. The closest you
might come is to right-click and search for all related messages, then drag
those into the desired folder.

Also note: The newsgroup interface you are using apparently does not quote
earlier messages in the thread, making your latest message so short on
detail that you risk not getting the answer you're looking for. Please take
the time to quote the original message.

Thanks Sue - a candidate for OL 2004? - and a free lunch?...

Using OL Express for newsgroups and suffering for being reprimanded
elsewhere for including earlier messages in thread! (g)

best

Include enough information to make it possible for someone to understand the
issue from the latest message in the thread. Usually, that includes at least
the original question and the Outlook version.
