Rules and Appointments

I have a number of rules which filter emials by sender,
but I would like to have an exception for appointments so
they stay in my main inbox. (when sent to other folders
they don't process correctly and don't appear in the
calendar until opened) and can just be more easily
overlooked.

In your Rule, can't you make an Exception that says subject contains
"Meeting Request:" or "Meeting Update:" ?
