Rule vs. "delete from server when deleted from deleted items"???

Env: Outlook 2002 being bombarded by this swen nonsense.

I've got the setting for deleting from the server when deleted from deleted
items set. It seems that works as expected even for permanently deleting
directly from the inbox with Shiift+Delete.

But it doesn't seem to work at all if I have a rule to permanently delete
this stuff when received.

Is it just me? Is there a workaround?

I checked with the rules person here, and it turns out that the rules'
permanent deletion code does not go through the necessary code path to cause
the message to be deleted from the server. The only workaround would be to
move all messages that you want to permanently delete to a folder and
periodically select all items in the folder and do a Shift-Delete.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to know I'm not just imagining this
behavior.

I'll have to look into your "workaround." The issue I can see is that the
whole reason I wanted this to work is to keep my email box from running over
due to all of the patches "Microsoft" keeps sending me. I can't get in there
and shift+delete them fast enough or I wouldn't need the rule in the first
place--I'd just shift+delete them from the inbox which does get the "delete
from server" treatment. This is the classic case for a rule for permanently
delete right now ***and*** delete it from the server at the same time.

You guys really should consider fixing this behavior of the "permanent
delete" rule/"delete from server" code so that ANY permanent deletion by any
method gets the delete from server treatment!
