Hi,

Is there any alternative or similar product for RSA security tokens/ Ace
server ?

Their product is good but expensive.

Any help would be appreciated,
Ali

How about SafeWord from Secure Computing.
I believe it's cheaper, the tokens lasts longer, og the tokens don't get out
of sync as easy as SecureID tokens.

Alternatively you might consider using smartcards which are more generic and
supported by well known authentication standards like Kerberos.

But with smartcards the clients must install the device on their computer.
Am i correct ?

Yes. But depending on your network - if you are using W2000/2003 with
active directory for example, you can "push" software out to your clients.

In fact any network o/s will allow you to write a login script, whereby you
can force the installation of the client software upon the user.

btw, I'm using rainbow ikey3000 usb tokens, and connect via ipsec/eap/3des
via vpn to our windows2003 domain. I feel as secure as I believe I can be
....

Sorry for the delayed reply. I missed this thread earlier.
You are right in that if you use smartcards themselves you would need a
reader. You can consider smartcard based USB devices that are on the market.
With these you might need to add a software driver.

I believe some smart card reader drivers are shipped with XP/W2K3 so
installation is streamlined. RSA SecurID one-time password generators
(pagers or software) don't require any software installed anywhere but is
terribly expensive and requires trained helpdesk for troubleshooting.
