I am using the Hyperterm application fon an RS-232 interface to a UPS via an HP DL380 G3 server running Windows 2000 Adv Server. I occassionally have problem where the interface does not work. If I reboot the server the problem is corrected and the interface works correctly. The hyperterm interface is configured, 9600 8-N-1 with no flow control. Has anyone encountered similar problem? Is there a fix for this problem?

not so much an answer but perhaps a work around
try

Start
Run
type
devmgmt.msc
click OK

<device manager opens>

Navigate to
[+] Ports (COM & LPT)

click on the [+]
find the errant com port
right click on it and disable it
repeat and enable it

it may save the hassle of rebooting?
