I know this is vague but i'm hoping someone has had a similar problem and
can help.
Our network was working fine when one day the switch that connected all our
servers together burned out. I tried to install a temporary spare and it
seemed that one of the server's ethernet ports was not working. That server
acted as the connection between our LAN on one (the seeming defective)
ethernet port and the internet on its second ethernet port. I began to
configure another server with RRAS to serve that purpose and adjusted the IP
addresses of a few servers. But when we got the replacement switches I
tested again and the ethernet ports were in fact not burned out. So I
restored the settings.
However, RRAS is now not routing. Twice in a week it began to work for a
while and then it will also stop working again for no apparent reason. From
the RRAS server I can browse out the internet and access anything on the
LAN. All computers on the LAN can access the server but cannot get out to
the internet. So the individual ports are working. When I look at "route
print" in a command prompt it looks correct.
Can anyone think what might be wrong or suggest some steps to troubleshoot
and find the problem?
Thanks...
