I am running a copy of W2K server on which I need to
create a shared internet connection via an ADSL modem. I
have setup the demand dial interface in RRAS, NAT has been
added as a protocol and the interface added to that
protocol. The TCP/IP settings for the interface are to
automatically obtain the IP and DNS servers (which it
does). The connection is established ok, but no internet
connection is available for IE. When you ipconfig it,
there is no default gateway for the connection.
I have set up a separate DUN to test the ADSL connection
that connects OK and obtains the default gateway
automatically. IE can detect the connection and all is
sweet. BUT - I cant use ICS on the DUN as it doesnt work
whilst DHCP and DDNS are running (grrrr - known problem).
The difference between the two connections appears to be
an option that is greyed out on the RRAS interface but not
on the DUN. It's in the advanced options of the TCP/IP
config - "This checkbox applies only when you are
connected to a local network and a dial-up network
simultaneously. When checked, data that cannot be sent on
the local network is forwarded to the dial up network."
Then there is a tick box for the "use default gateway on
remote network".
When I untick this box on the DUN it reacts the same way
as the RRAS interface - no gateway - no internet
connection.
I assume that there is some additional config required to
achieve the same thing that the option allows you to do
automatically. I attempted to add a static route on the
demand dial interface to specify the default gateway, but
the default gateway greys out when you select it?
I don't know where to go next. Could somebody point me in
the right direction?
