RPC terminated unexpectedly

My wife's computer (using Windows XP) just gave her the
following error message (a big red message on her screen),
and I have no idea how to fix it:

"Shut down was initiaed by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM"

"Remote procedure call service (RPC) terminated
unexpectedly"

Then it said something about a giving her a certain amount
of time to save her stuff before it turned off her entire
computer.

What does this mean? I am at a loss, as I am pretty much
computer illiterate. How can I fix her computer so that
it will stop doing this?

try this then install a firewall

That is not enough! Read my reply to your first message. You must clean
the worm from your system and fast. Your system is very vulnerable to
further exploit until you patch, firewall, and clean your system.

Patching and firewalling is only sufficient if you are not infected with
the worm. Wise folks have been patching since 16 July but for people
posting today and after, removal is vital.
