RPC shutdown

Been getting an error message saying that system must shut
down due to RPC error. It accelerated today so that now
it is stuck in a loop of shutting down and restating, then
having to shut down again. Seems like others having the
same problem - is this a virus? I have searched symantec
and can't seem to find anything to solve - anybody know
what to do???
