RPC servers files during app runs

I have had to put a workstation into service as a server and I'm
having problems now. The PC is configured as follows:
ASUS A7N8X-X Deluxe (w/SiL SATA RAID)
nVidia Video card
AMD XP 2600+
1 GB RAM (2 - 512 MB non-ECC)
2 SATA 80GB drives in a RAID 1 configuration

The OS (windows 2000 server) was installed clean (drive formatted and
then the OS installed with all of the MB drivers and SiL SATA RAID
drivers) BackupExec was installed (version 9.0) then I restored from
backup (restoring system state so it will run with Active Directory.)
It boots up fine but I get errors when some programs run.

BackupExec will run but during the day it simply stops (log error is
that the service terminated abnormally.) I also have PowerQuest V2i
Protector installed and it, too will shutdown during a backup with an
error "RPC service unavailable" . This happens at the same spot when
it runs (about 60% through the image making process)

What can I check to see why this RPC service quits running? Is this PC
just not strong enough or am I missing settings?

Any ideas are appreciated! I need to stabilize this situation ASAP.

Check Event Viewer for details on the error(s).

THe errors I get are non-specific: The [program name] program has
terminated unexpectedly. It has done this (1) times. The following
action will be taken in 60000 seconds: no action.

When I'm running PowerQuest V2i Protector to create a server drive
image it gets about 60% of the way through then I get an error message
that tells me that the RPC service is not available.

What can I do to trace this problem?

When you view the logged events in Event Viewer (double-click them in the
right-hand pane) in the upper right corner, third button down is a copy to
clipboard, then you can paste in the body of a reply message.

Please do so for each of the different System Log events (that are a Type:
'Error' or 'Warning') since last boot so we can see all of the event detail.

Also check Device Manager for error codes and or non-starting devices.

My quetion would be is the (RPC)Remote Procedure Call (both) running correctly? That is the service you want to look for that might be failing in the Event Viewer. Anything else is most likely extraneous. Why not set the Recovery of those all three to start the service again upon failure. Of course this is a msblaster symptom...check to see if you have made any updates to RPC recently namely security updates and what SP you running at?

I am out of town at the moment and cannot seem to remotely access the
server but I'll get this information for you first thing next week. I
appreciate your help with this!
