I'm using FP2002 and running on Win2K Prof edition.
Whenever I try to copy and past text within the same or
different pages, I'm getting the error: The RPC server is
unavailable. I've made no changes and have been using FP
(the past 3 editions) for over 4 years.
I'm working with a plain page with tables - no forms or
databases etc. on the page.

Have never seen this error before. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Melinda

Your machine may be infected by the very nasty Blaster Worm.
Start here:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Or, visit the ng: microsoft.public.security.virus because you may need their
help.

Good luck. And in the future, keep your windows updates current ;-)

Would have been easier to have installed the patch that was issued over a
month ago, and available on Windows update.

Many people are experiencing serious problems with the blaster on WinXP.
Very serious problems.

| I got the RPC/ Shutdown worm it was fairly easy to get rid of, would have
| been easier to prevent in the first place though. I guess the "I don't
need
| a firewall on my laptop" philosophy is stupid ;-).
|
| do you get a shutdown dialog box?

No problem at all. You just have to be able to log on, access the Internet,
download the patch, and get it installed . . . in less than a minute. :)

By the way, by changing the RPC settings in Services, you can change it to
restart after a much longer delay to give yourself time.

should've but didn't.
wasn't so hard to kill but I should've had the patch. if I weren't fairly
experienced I wouldn't have been able to remove it. if I was a little less
experienced I'd probably have been more attentive to the updates too.

Everyone should be running a firewall these days. You don't sleep with your
door unlocked, do you? :)

I use the H&K P7. the reason is because of the "squeeze cocker". it's
absolutely impossible for a child to fire and if it got separated from you
in a scuffle your average dirtbag won't know how to use it.
it takes about the same amount of "squeeze" as those spring type forearm
builders from the early 80's. plus you can hit a cigarette pack
consistently at 25yds. a little expensive but well worth the price, I've
got four of 'em.

You're rich, and if you're not it's because you don't want to be (with your
level of wizardry), you should look into getting one.

btw. I wouldn't have expected another answer from a Texan! ;-)

I have quite a few here in the house, long and short. Never seen the P7,
but anything by H&K is a fine piece. I'd love to have one, but I haven't
added to my collection in a long time. Too many other needs.

I depend on my pre-Clinton Glock 17. It's not exactly a safe gun for
non-shooters. Plenty of cops have shot themselves in the foot playing
around with it. I can hit the center ring at 25 yards most of the time, but
I load all my own ammo, so I'm shooting loads that are more accurate than
store bought.

My favorite is my 8.75-inch S&W .44 Magnum. Just like Clint's, but mine is
nickel-plated and quite a beauty. It's like shooting a cannon, but it's
inherently very accurate.

Oh well, don't want to scare people. Back to FP. :)
