Hi,

I get this very hard to understand error when browsing the network:

\\Mont-FP1is not accessible
The Remote Procedure Call failed and did not execute.

It's the same thing for any computers or servers I'm trying to access. I'm
able to ping, tracert is finding the servers but I can't accessany of them
even with though the Start\Run command line. The RPC service is running and
my event logs are clean.

I really need help everything is in a Windows 2000 server and Professional
env.

Do you have firewall/ISA in the LAN? any errors when using nslookup?

Actually we just found out that it's caused by a the network card PCMCIA
since it's on a laptop that the error is happening

To answer your question no the laptop and server sits behind all the
Firewall. I dod not try the nslookup will do it and post the results.

Ok I tried the nslookup and it find the server no problem. Now I'm getting
the Server Service is not started when trying to access a server on the
network through Network Places browsing.

I checked the local client service for Server and Computer Browser and both
are started and no errors in the Event viewer. I stopped both services and
restarted them and still not able to get through. A reboot doens't help
either.

I also found out that I have that my network card installs itself a second
time on the laptop and it a bit different. It says "...Deterministic Network
Enhancer..." It wasn't there after the installation of the PCMCIA card. Any
clues? I'm thinking about calling the company who made the card and ask them
why it install's intself that way after a while. I'm pretty sure my problems
comes from that last part I described.

That's it I have pinpointed the problem. I comes from the Cisco VPN client.
Right after the install it creates a ...Deterministic Network enhancer. And
the only way to take that out is to un-install the Cisco VPN client. Now I
have to find out how to correct this so that I can still use the network and
have the Cisco VPN client installed.
