I just downloaded XP and I'm continuing to get messages
stating that windows is shutting down due to the RPC
being terminated? Does anyone know how to fix this? I
downloaded a new version of IE 6.0 but I'm still getting
the error message. Thanks in advance!

It sounds very much like symtoms of the blaster worm.
I've pasted instuctions for removal from previous posts about this.
An anti-virus program needs to be installed / updated on your system.
Chek

To stop the reboots: Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. Scroll down
to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)/Recovery/First Failure/Restart the Service.

This script removes all variants of the W32.Blaster.Worm (original, b, c, d
and e) and will inform you whether or not the patch is already installed.
