RPC and SAP

After installing Service Advertising Protocol (SAP, which
so far I've found necessary to get my XP Pro machine and
my Win 2000 Pro laptop to talk to each other), I get
combinations of the following errors on XP: Internet Exp
6.0 encounters a prob and aborts, Generic Host Processes
for Win32 Services encounters a prob and aborts, and RPC
terminates. I use XP's internet firewall and up-to-date
antivirus software, and have all critical patches
installed. Multiple scans show no blaster virus.
Uninstalling SAP does not help; only a pre-SAP System
Restore works. Any ideas--either on avoiding SAP or
avoiding the problems?

Ahhh, I wish it were so easy as simply a virus.

According to Norton and Mcafee antivirus and removal
programs dated 10/31/03, I have no viruses, either before
installing SAP (when I don't have any problems) or after
installing SAP (at which point IE6 aborts when I try to
connect to the internet, followed by Generic Host
Services problems, and sometimes RPC failure).

Sure seems to me like a bug or conflict in the SAP
implementation.

Other ideas on (1) getting rid of this problem, or (2)
avoiding SAP to get an XP pro machine and a 2000 Pro
machine to talk?

based upon the behavior or system reliability issues you are seeing, it
would seem you have some form of system corruption then. Can you provide
more detailson what things have been done to this system since the last time
it worked correctly? Also any configuration would always be useful.
