Nza

I have been working on a spreadsheet with numerous cells
containing

Repeated PC names with ficticious data

A B c D

mc0123 office 2000 2000 office.exe
mc124 adobe acrobat 4.1 acrobat.exe
mc145 mcafee 1.5 vshwin.exe
mc125 norton 2004 norton.exe

Problem 1
Now there is a gigantic list of this data and some cells
will have a repeat of this data or maybe slightly
different as it goes down the rows & Columns.

Now the problem I am having is having to summarise this
humongous amount of data by either using the count or
vlookup function.

Problem 2

There is also drop down boxes created because its so much
data within the columns. For eg if I click the drop down
arrow at the top of Cell A it will show the list of
software and versions on it.

However when I click the drop down and click Adobe Acrobat
reader in the drop down list, the versions does not match
it in the rows and may have for eg ver 2000 besides it,
which in fact will be for a Microsoft product drop down
listing.

Hi Nza,
1. Problem: I'm not sure what you want to sum or count. Some ideas:
- Use the Subtotal Function 8'Data - Subtotals')
- Maybe (depending on your real data) a pivot table could be a solution

2. Problem: You should paste the formula in column C (the version
number). Maybe the VLOOKUP usage has an error. Difficult to tell
without any further information
