i was trying to update my linksys wag54g routor - i went to the control panel and the probllem is i dont know where the file path should be ?

is the file path a place that it will donwload to - eg my desktop or is it a place that ur upgrade is - eg a place such as desktop - that has already been downloaded ?
and if so where do i download the updates

or have i lost myself here ?

I've only updated my Router firmware the once, I just followed the instructions on the Linsky's site. I downloaded and printed out instructions, as I remember.

Was a whiles back now though and I can't remember. Upgrade went OK though.

Are you asking where you downloaded the file to? Surely you chose the location when the download window came up?

If you can't find it, download it again. And before it downloads, name it to something obvious like 'Linskys Firmware' rather than the seemingly random number they usually give these files. And save it somewhere obvious, like 'My Documents' for instance.

Then study the instructions for the update procedure, it's a lot simpler than the path you seem to want to follow.

Make yourself a "downloads" folder on your C drive ... then download the firmware update, pay particular attention to where it wants to save your file, use "browse" and point the download to your new "download" folder ... never loose a download again as once you do this all subsequent downloads will point to that download folder.

Now you will be able to "point" the firmware updater to the correct file.
