the (small) business I am contracted to runs a w2k server
with a cable connection to the internet. the server was
given the suffix morrish.com.au when setup by another
contractor, and the whole network/internet connectivity
runs fine.
recently the company registered the domain morrish.com.au,
and are hosting the site "www.morrish.com.au" with a 3rd
party.
the site is veiwable for the rest of the world, alas from
within the office, the employees (and most importantly the
MD) get a redirect from https://www.morrish.com.au/ to
https://www.morrish.com.au:19638/webhost/rollout, which
neither exists on the hosting site, nor is redirected by
the hosting server.
the router being used has no filters/static routes in
place, and as such I believe this to be some shady work-
around done by the previous contractor serverside(whom I
might add is terribly unhelpful in resolving this issue,
and is almost downright hostile when asked about the
curious and origional setup of the lan).
as a usually smug linux devotee, i am as they say "up that
sewerage-laden watercourse without some method of
prepulsion". the MD is yelling at me. he thinks a
computer is a computer. he doesn't know what an operating
system is. i hate the anger. help.

Does this company use an internal DNS server? I'm assuming yes.

Here are some thoughts:

1)
There may be an host or alias record for www in the DNS table.
Change that record to the "internet" IP address of "www.morrish.com.au".

2)
Check the existence of a hosts file on the local machine.

3)
is IIS running on the server? That could be the source of your redirect.

this sort of helps, I just have problems navigating to the
correct place! My experience with w32 started and ended
with NT3.5.1 + w95, been living in a *nix world ever
since...lol...
IIS is running, but I could find no dialogue to
add/delete/change a redirect. I shall stumble through
your suggestions, thanks for the thoughts but I'm sure to
be back. btw, I'm gaining new respect for the MS
community and the help I'm recieving.
Regards,

Glenn

IIS management:
Go to Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Services Manager

Expand the list. There is probably an entry that says default web site.
Right click on it, and choose properties. The redirect options is on
the Home Directory tab.

Most of the tools that you need to configure stuff (DNS, DHCP) is listed
under Administrative tools.

Good Luck! Let us know how it worked out.

To err is human...
To really screw up requires a computer.
